The UPSC EPFO APFC selection process has two stages:
- Recruitment Test
- Interview/Personality Test
The Recruitment Test is conducted offline using pen and paper. It contains objective multiple-choice questions.
The question paper is available in Hindi and English. There is also a negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to each question. No marks are deducted when a question is left unanswered.
PwD candidates are allowed 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour in the Recruitment Test and can also use a scribe.

The Recruitment Test is the first stage. Candidates who qualify in the written test are called for the interview/personality test.
Candidates preparing for the APFC Recruitment Test should first understand the complete syllabus. Since Labour Laws has been replaced by Labour Codes, preparation material should be updated accordingly.
It is also useful to divide preparation time among General English, General Studies, Economics, Constitution, Computer Applications, Mathematics, Statistics, Accountancy, Industrial Relations and Social Security.
