KSET 2026 will have two objective-type papers. Both papers will be conducted in the same session, and candidates will get a total of three hours.

Each question carries 2 marks.
Paper I is common for candidates from all subjects. It contains 50 compulsory questions for 100 marks.
This paper checks areas related to teaching and research aptitude, including reasoning, comprehension, general awareness and academic aptitude.
Paper II is based on the subject selected by the candidate while filling the application form.
It contains 100 compulsory questions carrying 200 marks. Candidates should prepare Paper II according to the syllabus prescribed for their selected KSET subject.
Candidates need to secure the required aggregate marks in Paper I and Paper II together.

However, these are only the minimum qualifying marks. They should not be treated as the final KSET cut-off.
The final qualifying cut-off can be higher depending on the subject, category, candidates’ performance and the number of available qualifying slots.
KSET follows a qualifying system under which the number of candidates finally declared eligible for Assistant Professorship is limited according to the prescribed percentage of candidates appearing in both papers.
Broadly, the qualifying pool is restricted to 6% of the candidates who appear in both Paper I and Paper II, subject to the applicable rules. These qualifying slots are distributed according to subject and category.
Therefore, candidates should not prepare only to reach the 40% or 35% minimum. A stronger score may be needed to clear the final subject- and category-wise cut-off.
The examination will be conducted across 11 districts/centres in Karnataka:
